Howl's Moving Castle Comparison

I won't tell you anything about the book by Diana Wynne Jones.
Other than it's absolutely intriguing and interesting.
And that you have to read it.
So go to your library.
And borrow it.
Or buy it.
Now.

Basically, Hayao Miyazaki just borrowed a few characters, the moving castle, and the sheer wonder of the book... and made a movie that's just a fantastic, but has a different storyline.  So there you have it... my short little demand that you read and watch...

 *snack time*

Howl's Moving Castle Character bios

You want to know a bit more?
Ahh, fine.

*Clears throat*

This is Calcifer. He's a sarcastic, lovable fire demon. Actually, in his words, he's a "scary and powerful fire demon". This little guys lives in a hearth *duh*. He used to heat and basically run Howl's moving castle, though I'm not sure what he's up to nowadays. Anyways, I can't tell you much more without giving spoilers...

This is Howl... he's very... er... flamboyant and vain and veryyyy concerned about his appearance. He's quite a powerful wizard with many aliases. He used to be "known" to eat the hearts of young, beautiful women. But overall, Howl is a good guy at heart.

This is Sophie. She's a pleasant young (or old when she's under the curse) woman. She is a calm, mature woman who usually keeps to herself, making hats in a family shop. She is marvelously brave and courageous, and a very good woman.

Market Chipping Scenery

Oooh nice architecture.

LOOK! It's Howl's Moving Castle!
... I thought it blew up..?

Anyways, keep on looking around. You're bound to see some really beautiful sights.

Destination 2: Market Chipping

All righttt. We're at Market Chipping. This gorgeous town is featured in a book by Diana Wynne Jones and a Studio Ghibli production; Howl's Moving Castle...

Howl's Moving Castle

A story between an 18-year-old girl named Sofîe, cursed by the Witch of the Waste into an old woman's body, and a magician named Howl. Sofîe sets out to seek the solution to her curse, which takes her to Howl's strange moving castle. In the castle, Sophie meets Howl's's fire demon, named Calcifer. Seeing that she is under a curse, the demon makes a deal with Sophie--if she breaks the contract he is under with Howl, then Calcifer will lift the curse that Sophie is under, and she will return to her 18-year-old shape.

Look at them go! Walking on air is no simple feat. Looks like Sophie still hasn't gotten used to it...

So here we go! If you would like to walk around, you may. The Witch of the Waste has gone now, so it's pretty safe...
